Bitesize #38 - Crustless Pizza May Double Your Calories

Iowa, USA radio personality Van Harden’s new doughless pizza has been mentioned here several times. What’s just been revealed is that because it uses a cheese crust, not only does a slice of his pizza have more fat than a regular pizza slice, but it may have twice as many calories as well.

Ken Fulson of the Des Moines (Iowa) Register has an amusing article questioning the value of some of the other inventions that Van Harden (who apparently has trademarked his own name) has come up with.

Speaking of pizza, Huey Morgan of the band Fun Lovin’ Criminals (they of Scooby Snacks fame) loves pizza so much that he bought two parlours. In Ireland. Except he lives in New York. What’s wrong with this picture? Duh. Thirty hours or free, Huey?

Despite all the interest in American restaurants to spread pizza parlours around the world, some chains are experiencing a downturn. Yum Brands Inc. (NYSE: YUM), who owns KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut report that Pizza Hut’s sales dropped 9% in the 2nd quarter. However, Yum Brands did enjoy a 29% increase in sales in parts of Asia. Lower domestic sales might in fact be why there’s a rush for some pizza chains to open in other countries.

Want to see what the kitchen of the future might look like? Popgadget has a post about architect Zaha Hadid’s vision. It doesn’t include a pizza oven but it does have two separate islands, fire and water. Fire includes a multimedia center including computer and TV.
