Bitesize 34 - Pomegranappleade + Super-Sour Pomsicle Popsicles - Recipe

It’s a hot summer and you need something to cool you off. Pomegranates, once an exotic tropical fruit, are now plentiful in North America, especially in juice form. They’re high in vitamin C, and they make up the rich red colour of grenadine.

Here are two quick summer recipes that use grenadine - one for a type of lemonade, the other for home-made popsicles.

Pomegranappleade - In an typical-sized coffee mug, add about
2 tbsp RealLemon juice, 4 tbsp grenadine or similar syrup, and the rest in apple juice. You may have to play with the measurements a little especially if you plan to make a pitcher. The apple juice adds enough sweetness that you don’t need a lot of grenadine

Super-Sour Pomsicles - Do the same as above, but use cold water instead of apple juice. Have a sip of the mixture to make sure the balance is just right. Obviously, water isn’t sweet like apple juice, so you may need to add a bit more grenadine into the mix. Use ice cube trays or plastic popicle makers and pour the liquid into the trays. If making popsicles, follow the manufacturer’s directions for the popsicle tray. The ice cube versions can be added to select drinks. Experiment to be sure.
