Bitesize 27 - Tidbits About Food And Drink
Here are a few tidbits about restaurants, food, and drink:
- Recently, on CNBC TV’s Street Signs, Eric Schlosser, author of the book Fast Food Nation, claims that the hamburger you recently ate could have contained meat from as many as 1,000 different cattle. Patrick Boyle, American Meat Institute, pointed out that a bottle of applesauce could have apples from dozens of orchards, and that the claim about 1,000 cattle was irrelevant. Schlosser insisted that the United States needs a food safety testing technique, to which Boyle stated that there already was. (As with most mini-debates on CNBC, there’s never enough time to resolve them.)
- Reviewsby.us is a new restaurant review site, complete with geocoding map, provide you supply a US address. (Geocoding for Canadian addresses to come.)
- The Art of Drink is currently reviewing a variety of high-end Canadian whiskeys and scotches, like Seagrams VO.
- Peru has an International Potato Center (CIP), and recently celebrated the National Day of the Potato. [found via slashfood] There are apparently thousands of potato varieties in Peru, and the center works towards preserving them.
