Exotic Fruit - Asian Pears

The Asian pear looks like a very round, pale yellow-brown apple, but the skin is very crispy. The flesh has a very subtle taste and is extremely juicy. I wrapped slices of this pear with Italian sliced meats: mortadella and a salami/proscuitto combination. The saltiness of both provide a wonderfully subtle contrast against the flesh of the pear. (In Italy, proscuitto is often wrapped around slices of melon for exactly the same reason.)

Other possible uses: Use the juice of an Asian pear as part of a vinaigrette dressing for a Mesclun mix of greens.
